About
The future, explained every weeknight.
Why we exist
We are living through the singularity: new technology now arrives faster than most people can follow. The hard part is no longer finding the news. It is keeping up, and understanding what each change means.
So every edition of Singularity Nightly explains each advancement in plain English, for ordinary readers rather than specialists, along with what it could change in their lives: their health, their money, their work and their day. Look for the box called Why it matters for the average Joe and Jane under every story, and the Why it matters line under every Ticker item. Technical words have a dotted underline the first time they appear; tap or hover for a plain definition, or read the whole Glossary.
How we see it
We look at the future with wonder. Many of us grew up dreaming of robot friends, flying cars and trips to space, and those dreams are starting to come true. When a breakthrough saves lives, ends a disease, makes space cheaper for ordinary people or brings the world of The Jetsons a step closer, we celebrate it and tell you exactly why. We report military technology because it shapes the world, but we report it plainly. We never exaggerate what happened, and when something is still years away, we say so.
