"title": "Apple opens Siri's new AI brain to every app maker",
"text": "Apple told developers Tuesday that any app can now connect to Siri AI, the smarter version of its voice helper, starting with test versions of iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3 and visionOS 27.3 that arrived at about 1:08 PM ET. App makers use App Intents, Apple's way for an app to describe what it holds and what it can do, so Siri can act on it without the person opening the app. New skills let Siri chain several steps into one request, and Siri can find things inside an app through the Spotlight search index. Apple says 15 of its own apps, including Mail, Maps, Messages, Notes, Photos, Reminders and Safari, already work this way. Apple says the change \"allows any app to bring its content and actions directly into Siri AI.\" It is a Developer Preview: it runs only in test builds for now, reaches customers in a few months, and apps can ship with it in the App Store in the spring. It works in English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, with Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese coming. It is not offered in the European Union on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, or to children under 13, and Apple says daily limits apply and wider use will cost a fee later. The same test version brings back a redesigned Health app and adds Live Rewind, a written record of the last 15 seconds of sound, on the newest Apple Watches, Cult of Mac reports.",
"why_it_matters": "today you open an app and tap through menus to get something done. If app makers sign on, you could ask Siri to do a task that spans several apps in one sentence, like finding a note and sending it to a friend. This is a test for developers now; most people will see it next year.",

They belong to Qianfan, which means Thousand Sails, a broadband internet network run by Shanghai Spacesail. Launch Library 2 says the network aims for 1,296 satellites by 2027 and 12,000 in the long run. A network this big is called a megaconstellation. Kinetica-2 stands about 53 meters tall and can carry up to 12,000 kilograms to low orbit, according to its public record, and this looks like only its second flight. It was the only orbital launch worldwide in the window, which makes 256 so far in 2026. American launches are quieter for now: SpaceX has paused Falcon 9 launches from Florida for at least 6 weeks to rebuild for Starship, and the next U.S. launch, USSF-432 from California, has slipped to Friday at 7:46 PM ET.",
"why_it_matters": "satellite internet can reach farms, ships and villages that cables never will. China wants its own network so it does not depend on Starlink. It will take many more launches like this one before Qianfan is finished.",

"text": "NASA's retired Swift telescope is still expected to fall into the atmosphere around 3:30 AM ET Wednesday, after a private rescue mission failed this summer. On the failed rescue, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said, \"This is not the outcome we were working toward.\" Isaacman wants to boost Hubble higher rather than let it fall uncontrolled, NASASpaceflight reported Tuesday; when NASA asked for ideas he said Hubble \"still has important science ahead of it.\" Hubble has no engines of its own. On Oct. 29 NASA asked companies for ideas to boost it, repair it or bring it down safely, with a mission flying by 2032; one option is raising it to at least 600 kilometers. The Register says there is about a 10% chance Hubble falls back by September 2032 and a 50% chance by December 2033. The last astronaut visit, in May 2009, left a docking ring on Hubble that should make it easier to grab than Swift was. Astronomers ask for about 7 times more Hubble time than there is, and no replacement is planned before the 2040s.",
"why_it_matters": "Hubble has shown us galaxies, newborn stars and planets around other suns for 36 years. A boost could keep it working for many more, for far less than a new telescope. NASA is still only gathering ideas; nothing has been bought or scheduled.",

It still lost $119.1 million in the quarter, as young aircraft makers do while they build, and had $1.34 billion in cash at the end of September. Its A250, which takes off straight up like a helicopter, became the first electric aircraft of its kind to get an FAA special airworthiness certificate for market surveys, a permit that lets it fly demonstrations with customers aboard before it is fully certified. BETA says customers hold orders and options for 1,040 aircraft worth just over $4 billion, its fleet has flown more than 250,000 nautical miles, and its charging network has 168 sites. In the federal air taxi test program it has started 6 of its 7 projects, carrying medical supplies in North Carolina, emergency equipment in Texas and cancer medicines in Utah. \"This was our strongest quarter of revenue since inception,\" CEO Kyle Clark said. Not investment advice.",

The trial compared the drug with a placebo, a look-alike with no medicine, and measured the North Star Ambulatory Assessment, a standard test of how well people stand, walk, climb and get up from the floor. Patients on the drug did no better, and the other goals were missed too. Servier says the drug stayed safe and well tolerated, and that the results do not match some earlier, smaller studies, so it is going back through the data. Servier bought the drug from Edgewise Therapeutics in June for $1.55 billion, STAT reports. Becker has no approved treatment. The Muscular Dystrophy Association said it was disappointed and will hold a webinar with Servier for families. \"We learn from every trial conducted,\" the MDA said.",

First missiles would be due within 3 months of a contract and all of them within 15 months. Answers are due Nov. 19. The Air Force said the weapon is \"designed to provide affordable mass to the fight,\" meaning many cheaper weapons instead of a few costly ones. Duke's plan covered sites using 50 megawatts or more, with 20-year contracts. The commission's staff had recommended a no, finding it could not make sure each data center paid its own way, and Duke can file again. Chair Gabriella Passidomo Smith said the vote \"reinforces our commitment to upholding those protections.\" The same day, St. Johns County, Florida, paused new large data centers for a year, after Mooresville, North Carolina, paused new applications for 12 months on Monday night.
